The Great Fossil Hunt is coming to the Museum of the History of Science!

To celebrate the release of the film, Mary Anning: Fossil Hunter, a great fossil hunt is being organized. From October 20th to November 2nd, you can win one of 20 clay blocks available at the Museum of the History of Science reception. If you get a block, break it: it may contain a golden fossil!

Whoever finds the Golden Fossil will win a family weekend in Lyme Regis, the town where Mary Anning founded modern paleontology.

HappyKid comment:

Discover the Golden Fossil and you could win a weekend in Lyme Regis, England, for you and your whole family!

Lyme Regis is where Mary Anning founded modern paleontology. You can join an expedition there in search of real fossils. The price includes three nights on site and travel (plane, train, or ferry, your choice). But who is Mary Anning? Born in 1799 in England, Mary Anning was the first to discover the complete skeleton of a plesiosaur in 1823. She was a pioneering, self-taught paleontologist, and Marcel Barelli's animated film retraces her fascinating life. Kids will love this heroine, who is 12 years old at the beginning of the film.

This fantastic fossil hunt competition is available throughout Switzerland. In Geneva, the clay blocks are hidden at the Museum of the History of Science (MHS) and the Cinélux cinema. Discover the clues and explore the hiding places with your family in Lausanne, Rolle, Nyon, Vevey, and more than 40 Swiss cities. Preview screenings will also be offered throughout October, November, and December.

For parents and teachers, the site also includes educational and paleontological files, quizzes, and games to learn about fossils, the story of Mary Anning, and paleontology. For future mini-filmmakers, a stop-motion kit also provides an introduction to filmmaking!

Mary Anning's story offers several themes to explore, depending on the age of our children:
Passion and perseverance: She persevered in her work despite a lack of recognition due to her gender and social class. Paleontology and Dinosaurs: Her discoveries helped lay the foundations of modern paleontology.
Women in Science: Her story highlights the importance of women in science at a time when their role was often underestimated.
